Event Description:

Colorado Parks & Wildlife is offering a two-part winter and avalanche awareness class to help everyone stay safe this winter.. With winter in full swing and snow depths beginning to rise, winter and avalanche safety is of primary importance to anyone that enjoys cold weather activities.

In the seminars topics will include snow composition and identifying hazardous terrain. In addition, participants will learn and practice rescue skills in a wintertime setting. Park rangers will cover a variety of topics including gear, weather forecasting, safe winter travel, weather, snowpack, terrain, evaluating hazards and rescue techniques.

Location:

Friday, Jan. 16 at Craig Middle School, 915 Yampa Ave.
Saturday, Jan. 17 at Freeman Reservoir Trailhead (11 miles north of Craig on Hwy 13, turn right on County Road 11 and follow signs to trailhead)

    ***Note: Participants for this session are required to bring their own snowmobile and all safety equipment, including helmets, beacons, shovels and probes as well as proper attire and food and water.
