Spring Turkey Hunt application deadline

Youth interested in participating in the spring turkey hunt near Meeker can apply by sending a letter of interest and a short essay about hunting to District Wildlife Manager, Bailey Franklin, at P.O. Box 1181, Meeker, CO 81641. The letter of interest should include the hunters name, address, phone number, and hunter education card number as well as contact information for a parent or guardian. The essay should be 500 words or less and should express why the youth believes hunting is important for wildlife and why the youth wants to be selected to participate in this special hunt.

 

Applicants must be under age 18 and possess a valid hunter safety card. No previous hunting experience is required and all youth hunters are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants and a parent/guardian or mentor must attend a prehunt orientation at the Meeker CDOW office from 3-5 p.m. on April 24. The hunt will take place April 25-26. CDOW will provide use of shotguns, ammunition, blinds, and calls. Hunters must provide their own camouflage, lodging, and food. Letters and essays must be postmarked by April 10, 2009. The three youth chosen to participate in the hunt will be notified by April 15.
