The BLM Little Snake Field Office will be celebrating National Public Lands Day at Irish Canyon. Irish Canyon is located approximately 70 miles west of Craig off Colorado Highway 318. The canyon is a highly scenic canyon with an interpretive exhibit of ancient petroglyphs and a small campground. Volunteered donate 4 hour of their time and will help in such tasks as re-establishing camping pads, burying campfire rings, replacing old signs, trail maintenance and installing an interpretive panel. Because of the distance, the event will be an overnight camping trip with a weenie and marshmallow roast, wildlife talk, geocaching search and other activities. There will be a barbecue, t-shirt, free fee-free day pass to a participating public land, (i.e., National Park, Forest Service, etc,), and a free raffle. Volunteers should meet at the Irish Canyon site at 9 a.m. Saturday. Camping is available at the campground for those who prefer to come Friday. For those who come by 6:30 p.m. Friday, we will take a quick run over to Sand Wash in hopes of seeing some wild horses. It is recommended that you RSVP so we can get an accurate count for the amount of supplies needed.
