Name: Got Elk? DOW presents herd number methology
Date: April 6, 2009
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
The Craig Chamber of Commerce is hosting a public meeting that will give residents the opportunity to hear representatives from Colorado Division of Wildlife talk about the process they use for estimating the size of big game herds - specifically elk.

Attendees will learn about the DOW population modeling process. Modeling is necessary as physical counts of species are impossible because of the size of the state, the complexity of terrain and the remote and reclusive nature of animals. Computer modeling of wildlife populations is a growing scientific field,

Information will also be presented on the movements of elk the DOW has collared.
