The Matt Trail begins in a valley and climbs up the southern face of Cold Spring Mountain. Atop lies a vast plateau with springs frequented by elk, deer, and pronghorn, making it a popular destination for hunters and wildlife lovers alike. The trail designates the eastern boundary of the 18,000 acre West Cold Spring wilderness study area. This is a moderate to difficult 10-11 mile round trip hike with 2900 feet of vertical gain.
