Event Description:
Making our economy resilient, sustainable will be focus of 2017 State of the Community

If anyone knows what makes a rural community strong enough to weather ever-changing economic pressures, Brain Lewandowski and Laura Blomquist Rodriguez do.
Lewandowski is the Associate Director of the Business Research Division at the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business and Rodriguez is a senior manager with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT).
They led a team that spent several months analyzing economic data from small communities, doing site visits and interviewing community leaders and elected officials.
Moffat County was one of the places they visited, and the place to which they?ll return to share what they learned in the hope that our community can use this information to grow and thrive.
Lewandowski and Rodriguez are the keynote speakers for the 2017 Craig Chamber of Commerce State of the Community event on April 5. They?ll be joined by former OEDIT Senior Regional Manager Meredith Marshall.
?The economy is top of mind for every Moffat County resident, and we?re hearing that the time for talking is over,? Chamber Executive Director Christina Oxley said. ?Brian and Laura are familiar with Northwest Colorado and have really dug in deep to understand some economic principles that we desperately need to understand if we?re going to take control of our own economic future.?
The two will cap off a night that will take an in depth look at Moffat County?s economy, expectations for 2017 and the work that?s being done to ensure that growth and prosperity is on the horizon.
Your ticket to State of the Community will let you meet Mike Foreman, Craig?s new city manager, who will share his excitement about being in Craig and his infectious optimism for its the future.
Moffat County Assessor Chuck Cobb, in his own inimitable style, will take a look at Moffat County?s tax base, what changes are expected and what that means for the county?s future.
And, representing the organization whose mission is to ?build a strong economic environment that contributes to business and community success,? will be Craig Chamber of Commerce Board Member Chris Nichols highlighting the programs and activities the Chamber will focus on in 2017 to benefit its members and the community.
?We know Moffat County has some tough challenges, but on April 5, you?re going to see the people who have the knowledge, dedication and drive to overcome them.?
And as usual, awards will be presented to the Businessperson of the Year, Business of the Year and there will be a surprise special recognition.
